We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.

Romans 12:6-10 (NRSVCE)

But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves.
– Luke 22:26

We Grow Greatness: LOCCS Core Values & Strengths

When Mary said yes, she demonstrated not only strength but also servitude. Our first core value in Light of Christ Catholic Schools is servant leadership. We believe in empowering others and serving those we lead. By daring to step out of the box, by valuing the gifts and talents of others, by responding with integrity and faith, by recognizing the dignity and potential in all, and by respecting our resources, perspectives, and differences, we are Catholic schools, not schools for Catholics.

“There is no more effective way to empower people than to see each person in terms of his or her strengths.”

 Don Clifton

Strong, Not Wrong

Light of Christ Catholic Schools focus on what’s strong, not on what’s wrong. Our students thrive because teachers and leaders know and use their strengths, appreciate individual differences, and develop an exceptional environment for learning. Our overall goal as a Catholic school division is to permeate our faith in everything we do; our goal of becoming a strengths based organization is no different. We want everyone in the organization to work towards identifying and maximizing their individual talents and strengths within our Catholic faith. Once this is achieved, we can then use the knowledge, skills and abilities learned through the process to focus on how best to improve relationships and culture throughout the division.

“Strengths are not activities you’re good at, they’re activities that strengthen you. A strength is an activity that before you’re doing it you look forward to doing it; while you’re doing it, time goes by quickly and you can concentrate; after you’ve done it, it seems to fulfill a need of yours.”
